Montefiore Orthodox Synagogue
We had a group from Torah Tours at Montefiore Synagogue in Lowell for the holidays of Shemini Atseres and Simchas Torah. The Torah Tours students lent a much more festive air to the holidays and made the holidays significantly more enjoyable. The students also gave informative and inspiring drashot that enhanced our holiday. They made a big impact on the services and the whole holiday experience.
These students also have a very positive experience that inspires them. We often have students return again a subsequent year and, as was the case this year, younger siblings coming under the recommendation of older siblings who joined us in the past. Often, students come from large communities where being Jewish means just following the crowd, without much dedication or commitment required. In a small community, they experience how much impact each individual can make and how much more committed everyone is to the success of the entire community. Students are also exposed to the challenges of being part of a small community. One example would be learning about the extra effort involved in finding a shidduch, which is difficult enough as part of a large community. That lesson has paid off for singles in the Lowell Jewish community. One shadchun with YU’s YUConnect matchmaking organization is a past Torah Tours student and she has been working with Lowell Jewish singles.
